The competition cheer team is comprised of  12 members and two alternates. This group is hand picked from the Varsity and Junior Varsity members seen on the sidelines over the summer through the two weeks of cheer camp.  The competition squad’s captain is Magdalyn Hoffman who was voted in unanimously by the team during their camp. Coach Tiffany Schapero leads the team and has built a strong program at Valley.

The team works long and hard to prepare for the upcoming competition, and since they are also part of varsity cheer, they even have practices on weekends and over holiday breaks!

After being chosen over the summer, the squad goes through an additional camp specifically for the development of their skills towards the competition season. This is to help them prepare for competitions, such as regionals, MCDA Cheer and Dance Championships, which will be held at Cowabunga Bay March 28th, 2020, as well as Sharp Nationals set to be held at the Westgate Hotel and Casino April 11th, 2020.

“Competing at regionals was really fun this year, and was a great experience for the cheerleaders who are new to competing! We are excited for future competitions,” captain Maggie Hoffman said.

The team’s routine is two minutes and thirty seconds long and combines individual stunts, as well as group stunts, which are called pyramids, and a crowd participation cheer.  They finish with jumps, a dance portion, and end with a final stunt portion and pyramid.

“We will be competing at SHARP Nationals on April 11th to defend our national title from last year,” Hoffman adds.
