McDonalds has recently released three new chicken sandwiches into their menu, one of the sandwiches being the Deluxe Crispy Chicken Sandwich. The Deluxe Chicken Sandwich is very similar to McDonalds’ old Southern Style Chicken Sandwich, which was discontinued in 2015. After going to two different McDonalds and tasting the Deluxe Chicken Sandwich two separate times, I personally would not recommend buying the chicken sandwich just because it is a very plain sandwich that anyone can buy anywhere.

The new Deluxe Chicken Sandwich is available at any McDonalds location nationwide; many people were given early access to taste the new chicken sandwich a few days before it was released for only five dollars. The Deluxe Chicken Sandwich consists of shredded lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, the crispy chicken filet, and a potato roll bun. The Deluxe Chicken Sandwich is priced at $4.39 without tax for just the sandwich and $6.99 without tax for the medium meal, but the large will be 60 cents more, at least at the location where I dined. The Deluxe Chicken Sandwich is said by McDonalds to capture the hearts and taste buds of chicken enthusiasts across America. This sandwich is catered to people who want a little extra “something” in the toppings department.

I don’t really like the deluxe crispy sandwich because when I tasted it, I felt like the flavor was not there. When I took the first bite and tried to taste it, it just tasted like a regular chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomato, and the chicken was very unseasoned. I had seen many ads of McDonalds hyping the sandwich up and stating that it had a fresh new taste, which is why when I tasted it, I just didn’t see or taste all the hype for it.

I would not eat this sandwich again because it is not given to consumers as advertised all over McDonalds ads, and I feel like McDonalds workers don’t really know what each sandwich contains. When I ordered the sandwich the first time, they gave it to me without tomatoes and instead of putting mayo, they put the original spicy sauce. The next thing is when I received the sandwich, the bread looked much flatter than in the menu, and they barely added any lettuce. The chicken itself was much bigger than it looked in the picture, which I personally did not like because it was hard to bite the chicken sandwich like a sandwich.

The new Deluxe Chicken Sandwich is very similar to two chicken sandwiches that I have tasted, which are the McDonalds old Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Popeyes chicken sandwich. Unlike the new Deluxe Chicken Sandwich, the Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Popeyes chicken sandwich had a much more unique taste and every bite was filled with seasoning. The Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich and the Popeyes chicken sandwich both were seasoned very well and I could taste a hint of spice, pepper, salt, and other things as well which I didn’t get in the new Deluxe Chicken Sandwich. I also felt like the size of these two sandwiches were just right and filled me up, but with the new Deluxe Chicken Sandwich, if someone’s very hungry, they will need another. I would say the Popeyes chicken sandwich and the McDonalds old Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich, which is no longer available, would be better options than the new Deluxe Chicken Sandwich.

Overall, I would say it is not worth the hype to try it because it is like most chicken sandwiches and it lacks flavor. I would give this sandwich a 3 out of 10 and would not go back to McDonalds to buy it unless it was the only chicken sandwich available. There are much better options that have flavor and cost just about the same as the new Deluxe Chicken Sandwich.
