Valley’s Boys soccer team was plagued with injuries and the field dried out prematurely.  However, they were still competitive.

“Even through all the issues, we still had a shot to make a run at winning it all as we were one of the most dangerous 4 seeds in the playoffs. We played undefeated Sunrise Mountain, and unfortunately, our season ended against them in the first round,”  Coach Jaime Alvarez explains.

Christian Alvarez coached JV, and it was his first year coaching soccer at Valley.

“I enjoyed having a great coaching partner experience with Coach Jaime Alvarez,” JV Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach Christian Alvarez states.  “We were able to bounce ideas off of each other and we both valued each other’s input.”

With a large group of seniors, they will be missed next year.

Senior Juan Antonio-Martinez

“Our season started off with a rude awakening; we played Rancho High School to see how we would do against a decent team, and the result we got was not what we expected at all as we were blown out and saw that we needed major improvements,” senior Marco Torres explains.

The team then worked hard to train both to get in shape and to work on tactical plans.

Senior Jorge Rodriguez

“Coach [Jaime] Alvarez brought back the formation we used last year, and that was a key factor to our success most games because he knew his players well and knew that if we worked hard we could beat any team we faced,” Torres adds, “but that was if and only if we worked hard.”

“In the end, after our loss in the quarter finals against Sunrise, I don’t think we could’ve done anything differently.  We worked hard, and I believe that was the best we played all season. Although the loss was devastating to us, I was proud of my team, and I was glad to be a part of the team for the last three years,” Torres concludes.

“Moving up to 4A will be a great challenge that I’m looking forward to, “ JV Coach Alvarez adds.
